Our 1st day in school“Under the Big Top“ was the theme of the Sports Day Celebrations of Calibre Academy, this year. As the name suggests, the theme revolved around a Circus and the school had made every effort to create that ambience on the sports field. You had circus tents in a variety of bright colours dotting the far end of the field. Cutouts of various circus animals, acrobats, ringmasters and trapeze artists were scattered all over the”arena’.Live clowns of various sizes wove their way in and out of the audience greeting all the children and their parents, welcoming them to the Sports Day function., Each child was gifted a balloon and was the recipient of a warm handshake from Jango Joker. A colourful array of balloons gave the place a very festive look. To add to this were the pop corn and candy stalls, the bouncing castle, the merry go round and the tattoo artist.. All the children had a wonderful time basking in the carnival like atmosphere at the sports ground.
We had Mr.Tayal, zonal manager, Bank of India officiating as the Chief Guest.Mrs Devila Patel,Principal,Bambino School,Ms. Aarathy,World no 10 roller skating champion, and Mr. Munian,Headmaster of the Corporation school of Mandavelli, were the guests of honour.Mrs. YGP, the Dean and Director of the Padma Seshadri Group of Schools, was a special guest. The other stalwarts, who added to the glamour, were Mrs. and Mr. Y.G.Mahendra and Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, the famous Bharata Natyam exponent.
The function began with a march past in which children from classes 1 to 8 participated. Once the school flag had been hoisted, the torch lit and the meet declared open by the Chief Guest, the audience was treated to some visually delightful drills and formations by the children of both primary and middle school. All the drills and games were created with the theme of circus being kept in mind.So if you had children of LKG and UKG creating the circus tent by way of a formation, the senior students gave us a taste of what it was to be a hoola hoop artist, an acrobat and a clown performing in a circus under the “Big Top”. Perfect synchronization and harmonious movements of all the children in this item made the audience give them a standing ovation. The gymnasts with their act again were a super hit with the audience. The games again were very enjoyable and child friendly, pertaining to the circus.
The Chief Guest was full of praise for the efforts of the staff and the students of the school. He predicted a very bright future for the school. Aarathy, the young role model for the children, appreciated the efforts of the young children and requested them to give sports as much importance as academics since according to her the kind of discipline that one can inculcate by playing sports, cannot be equaled by any other method. She even donated Rs 5000/- to the school for furthering of sports activity in Calibre Academy. Mrs. Madhuvanthi Arun,Correspondent ,Calibre Academy, immediately announced that a prize in Ms. Aarathy’s name would be instituted next year and the best athlete of the school would be given that prize. Mrs.YGP was full of praise for the discipline maintained on the field by the children the full attendance of parents and the innovation and creativity displayed in the various games devised for the children.
At the end of the day all the staff and students of the school felt that it had been a good day’s work!
