Our 1st day in schoolCalibre Academy celebrated Pongal in style, on the 12th of January, with the folk dancers of Tamil Nadu, who have come to participate in the only festival of India that belongs to people of all religions as well as non-believers, namely The Chennai Sangamam. Smt. Rajathiammal, mother of Rajya Sabha MP, Kanimozhi, the brain behind the show, was a surprise guest at this function at the school.
The audience was treated to a visually delightful presentation of folk dances such as Karagattam, Puliaatam, Bommalaatam, and Thapattam etc.The rhythms of the drum along with the graceful karagttam dancers had the children up on their feet tapping to the mesmerizing beat.
The main aim of our Correspondent, Mrs. Madhuvanthi Arun, for organizing such a show for her school children is for them to reconnect with their rural roots and bring arts closer to their homes and lives. This has been arranged for the past three years and it has been a revelation to the children as to how electrifying and enthralling the folk rhythms and presentation can get.
