Truth About TigersMUSICUNIV@Calibre Academy was launched by the doyen of Indian Film Music Shri. M.S. Viswanathan and a legend in the field of classical dance, Dr. Vyjayanthimala Bali ,on Saturday, 17th July, 2010 at the Calibre Academy premises in Royapettah.
This curriculum will offer a comprehensive musical programme entitled "Foundation Certificate in Classical Music." that covers the fundamental aspects of North and South Indian classical music as well as global musical traditions to the students of Std. VII upwards. This is the first integrated musical education initiative being launched by a premier music institution in the country, and at a premier educational institution in the city. MUSICUNIV@Calibre Academy is the first of a series of initiatives started at Brhaddhvani. Through MUSICUNIV@Calibre Academy, we hope to bridge the gap between the demand for musical education and the supply of highly accomplished musical faculty with a structured, systematized syllabi in musical training at the child’s primary source of learning, his/her school. By physically moving the concept into the school premises, the concept seeks to eliminate problems faced by parents in seeking high quality musical faculty elsewhere. Sri M.S. Viswanathan blessed the students and wished them well, requesting the teachers to teach ‘Ingeetham’ (dignity) along with ‘Sangeetham’ (Music). Dr. Vyjayanthimala stressed the importance of dance in music and music in dance.
Mrs. Madhuvanthi Arun, Correspondent of Calibre Academy, reiterated that music would be taught as a subject to children of std. 7 upwards and not as an extra or co- curricular subjectas it is normally done. It would also be integrated with the other relevant subjects in the curriculum of the school.
Anil Srinivasan, Director, Brhaddhvani, expressed his happiness about starting such a structured and comprehensive course of music ,for the first time in a school, like Calibre Academy which is known for its initiatives in the field of innovative education.
